Diese Klassifikationsstelle umfasst: Aspekte der adaptiven Segmentierung während der Videokompression.
Auswahl einer Unterteilung des Bildes in Codierungsblöcke, d.h. Bestimmung einer aus Blöcken bestehenden Gitterstruktur zur Abdeckung des Bildes.
Die Auswahl kann die Form der Blöcke, z.B. rechteckig oder nicht-rechteckig, oder ihre Größe beinhalten. Beispielsweise erfolgt im H.264-Standard die Auswahl zwischen den Blockgrößen 4 x 4, 4 x 8, 8 x 4 oder 8 x 8 Pixeln, wie in den Abbildungen unten dargestellt.
