Synthetischer Zellstoff besteht üblicherweise aus einem thermoplastischen Polymer, wie z. B. Polyolefinen oder bestimmten Polyamiden und hat eine Struktur ähnlich wie Zellstoff. Das heißt, der synthetische Zellstoff hat eine mikrofeinfaserige Struktur bestehend aus Microfäserchen mit einem hohen Oberflächenbereich im Gegensatz zu der glatten, stabförmigen Gestalt von synthetischen Kurzstapelfasern. Synthetic pulp typically comprised of a thermoplastic polymer such as polyolefins or some polyamides and having a structure resembling wood pulp. That is, the synthetic pulp has a microfibrillar structure comprised of microfibrils exhibiting a high surface area as contrasted with the smooth, rod-like morphology of synthetic short staple fibers.
