57 Abstract AB [EN] There is disclosed the use of mesembrine and related compounds (e.g. mesembranol, mesembranone) as scrotonin-uptake inhibitors, pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds or dry material or an extract of plants from the Mesembryanthemaceae family (e.g. Sceletium (Aizoaceae) tortuosum) containing a standardized content of said compounds, for use in the treatment of depressive states, psychological or psychiatric disorders with an anxiety component, alcohol and drug dependence, bulimia nervosa and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Also disclosed are new derivatives of mesembrine.
