[EN] A method of monitoring a network element in a packet-switched network, comprising
receiving at the network element a Ping or Traceroute application message comprising a request object with an identifier,
determining (21) that a destination address of the Ping or Traceroute application message is reached or a TTL parameter of the Ping or Traceroute application message is expired,
identifying (26) a virtual link to which the received Ping or Traceroute application message relates,
looking-up (23) an information base of the network element to find a record matching the identifier in the request object in the context of the identified virtual link,
returning (24) data retrieved from the record in the information base or an indication that no match was found,
sending (25) a response message to a source address (1) of the Ping or Traceroute application message, wherein the response message comprises a response object comprising the retrieved data or indication. |
