[EN] The invention illustrates and describes an apparatus (16, 16', 16'') for pressing lateral pack surfaces (10), comprising: at least two movably mounted pressing bars (29A, 29B) for pressing the lateral pack surfaces (10), and at least one drive (24, 25, 38, 39) for moving the pressing bars (29A, 29B), wherein the pressing bars (29A, 29B) are mounted such that a gap (S) is produced between the pressing bars (29A, 29B), the longitudinal direction (Xs) of said gap corresponding to the transporting direction (T) of the lateral pack surfaces (10), and wherein the pressing bars (29A, 29B) are mounted such that it is possible to alter the distance between the pressing bars (29A, 29B). In order to subject lateral pack surfaces to a reliable level of pressing even when the lateral pack surfaces are being conveyed continuously, provision is made for the pressing bars (29A, 29B) to be mounted such that the pressing bars (29A, 29B) can be moved in the longitudinal direction (Xs) of the gap (S).
